AVID Walkathon 2007
|
Mt. Carmel High School's AVID program (Advancement Via Individual
Determination), a college preparatory program, invites you
to participate in their annual AVID Walkathon fundraiser held
at the Mt. Carmel High Track and Field (9550 Carmel Mountain Road)
The AVID Walkathon began in April, 2005, in honor of one
of their students, Christina Tajyar, who had 6 brain surgeries
due to her diagnosis of Arteriovenus Malformation. Christina's
struggles with this condition through high school did not
go unnoticed. Because of Christina's determination to succeed
and overcome this condition, her classmates were inspired
to start a fundraiser. They wanted to make a difference and
support other kids who needed brain surgery, due to similar
illnesses, in hopes to brighten their future.
The AVID Walkathon is held annually, at the Mt. Carmel High
School Track and Field, by Sara Ward and her Junior AVID students.
The students are sponsored either per lap or by a flat donation.
Christina Tajyar graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in
2006 and is now attending California State University, Northridge.
